Le Pop-Up De Chanel..
Lagerfeld invariably has his finger on the pulse. Perpetually "au courant", he has collaborated with Collete, the chicest of Parisian lifestyle boutiques, on a Chanel pop up store. Situated in the industrial surroundings of a former garage, at 336-340 rue Saint-Honore, Paris, France, the temporary pop-up store will play host to an array of visual arts and live music performances.
Not to be confused with Peter Philips' glorious Les Pop-Up De Chanel Spring/Summer 2010 make-up collection last year (one of my personal favourites to date, I still have the Nouvelle Vague nail varnish in my professional make-up kit).
Here, Chanel's classic 2.55 bag gets the art treatment. In the 20's, sick of having to carry her handbags in her arms, Chanel decided to design a handbag that would free her hands. Inspired by the straps found on soldiers' bags, she added thin straps and the resulting design was introduced to the market in 1929. After her successful comeback to the industry in 1954, she decided to update her design for modern women. She named the bag the 2.55 after the date of its inception in February 1955.
The music line up for the pop-up store features live performances today, Friday 4th March, from Maxence Cyrin and Elisa Sednaoui, from 5pm to 7pm.
French model Elisa Sednaoui was sat front row at the Chanel SS11 ready to wear show, rocking a black and white mohair jumper dress, black gilet and iconic Chanel chain belt.
On her nails, she wore Peche Nacree, one of the hot three new shades from the Les Perles de Chanel Spring 2011 make-up collection.
I'm a huge fan of Elisa's cousin Stephane Sednaoui. A leading image-maker and former lover of Kylie Minogue, he shot the cover for Kylie's Impossible Princess album in the late 90's, her brief foray into the world of Indie Pop.
He also directed the music video for the single "Sly" from pioneering Trip Hop outfit Massive Attack's seminal Protection album, featuring the haunting "Billie Holiday on acid" vocals of singer-songwriter Nicolette Suwoton:
Next Wednesday, 9th March, sees live performances from uber-hot NY DJ outfit Misshapes (Madonna was an original fan of their NY party nights), Caroline De Maigret and Joana Preiss, from 4pm - 7pm.
Leigh Lezark, one third of the Misshapes, model and muse to the likes of Lagerfeld and Matthew Williamson, was also front row at Chanel's SS11 ready to wear show.
